The whole &#8216;ceremony&#8217; was animated by Charles Ndabeni, the new CEO of tourism. He started with a list of &#8216;did you know that&#8230;&#8217; statements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The runway in Mahikeng is one of the longest in Africa and was on NASA&#8217;s list for possible landing of the space shuttle.<\/li>\n<li>The founder of the scouts movement, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Baden-Powell,_1st_Baron_Baden-Powell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Baden-Powell<\/a>, successfully defended the city of Mahikeng in 1899 during the Second Boer War.<\/li>\n<li>There is a world class analog studio close to Mahikeng where the music for the Lion King was recorded (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.soundonsound.com\/sos\/oct13\/articles\/bop.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BOP studios<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Charles was very funny but also clear on the priorities he sees for the future of the province, agriculture, media and tourism.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_235\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/denayer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/image41.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-235\" class=\"wp-image-235 size-medium lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/denayer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/image37-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/denayer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/image37-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/denayer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/image37-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/denayer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/image37.jpg 1447w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 225px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 225\/300;\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-235\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Charles<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We stayed for an excellent meal prepared by the students of the hotel school.
