Should I go back to Windows? 🤔
I’ve been a very happy Mac user for many years now. 🍏 I love the design, the ease of use, the integration with the whole ecosystem. 💻✨
But…
Microsoft just released an impressive new set of AI integrations in the Office suite. 💡 These really start to look like useful productivity features, directly in the tools that many of us use every day. 🛠️ The way they are integrating these AI features directly into the Office environment will make them easily available to everyone. 🎯
We can now get large language model assistance in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. On top, we get:
🔸Pages: Notion-like capabilities for organizing and managing content. 📂
🔸CoPilot Agents: AI helpers for complex tasks, similar to OpenAI’s GPTs. 🤖
🔸Python in Excel: run Python scripts directly in Excel, like Jupyter notebooks. 📈
I liked how the demos showed the human still very much in control of the process and necessary to do the thinking, planning, and reasoning. 🧠 And how the steps executed by the AI are small in scope but do speed up the work. ⚡ This looks like a realistic view of the state of AI. (Although they couldn’t resist using phrases like, the AI “reasons over your documents”…) 🧐
Anyway, the thing is…
Microsoft doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to bring these features to Office for Mac. ⏳ With all of my data in OneDrive, SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams, will sticking with Mac become a disadvantage? 🤷♂️
